Debra Jay

Debra Jay is the author of No More Letting Go: The Spirituality of Taking Action Against Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, published by Bantam in 2006.

She has also co-authored two Hazelden Guidebooks: Love First: A Family's guide to Intervention and Aging and Addiction: Helping Older Adults Overcome Alcohol or Medication Dependence.

 She is in private practice, providing intervention training and consultation services to families throughout the United States and Canada, and has an additional specialty in older adult intervention. She previously worked as an addiction specialist for the Hazelden Foundation.

Debra Jay has recently co-produced a series of intervention videos to teach families how to do a good, structured family intervention.

Her clinical experience included inpatient treatment for men and women, coordinator of the older adult track, facilitator of the three-day family program, designer of the outpatient family program as well as working in outpatient, extended care and aftercare programs.

She is a nationally known speaker and has been writing a newspaper column on alcohol and drugs since 1996.

Debra Jay has regularly appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, discussing topics such as women and alcoholism, women and perscription drug abuse, methamphetamine addiction and more. She also conducted the first intervention on the Oprah Winfrey Show, helping to get a young woman, addicted to crystal meth, into treatment.
